Emery is five years old! We took the day off and went to her Hidden Pond Nature Center class -- this week called Seuss Stories. She heard some stories by Dr. Seuss, made a Truffula tree out of a pencil (from The Lorax), and went on a walk around the Pond where we saw a wood pecker and a turtle.
Emery is reading very well - surprisingly well. She picks up words from context or pictures and also remembers them from when we read to her. She can also read brand new stories well too. She can add numbers and groups of numbers. She got several Lego sets for Christmas and her birthday and she can assemble them with the directions all by herself (unless she needs those tiny ones pulled apart - which are even hard for adults!)
Emery likes nature, animals, and how things work. She asks a lot of thoughtful questions. She likes rules and enforcing rules, calendars, order, instructions, projects, and understanding how and why things are the way they are. When she does a craft project, she wants to do it exactly like the picture on the box - and if it doesn't show the back, she's hesitant to decide what to put on the back.
She's spent a lot of time working on perler beads in her free time with Mrs. Diana. It's a perfect craft project that allows her to be meticulous (and quiet!) She also loves activity books and coloring, but also dress up, Lego, playing pretend, puzzles, and board games.
Soon she will start a new preschool with a full class of kids and two teachers. Hopefully the transition will go well. Mrs. Diana is moving, so Emery has been helping pack boxes and now at home, we're moving (locally) and she's been instructing me on how to pack boxes. She has good "leadership" skills!
This little sweetie refuses to get smaller or go back to being a baby, much to mommy's dismay. She insists on getting older and more wonderful and smarter and taking on new challenges! We're so grateful for this lovely little girl!
