fourteen months old - 04.27.13

emery annabelle is fourteen months old. as of about a week and a half ago, she's really taking off walking sturdy and confidently. a few times i've seen her stop, bend down to pick something up, and stand back up - but often she loses balance and sits before being able to get back up. she hasn't tried to stand up from being seated without grabbing on to something/someone.

she talks a lot and i have trouble keeping up with what she might be saying. a few new words are:
ba-puh = apple
paw-puh = peter (her favorite lovie)
bup = jump
ho-wee = hungry
mo-bee/mo-buhlee = more please
bow = bow

and several months ago when i questioned why she'd need to know about farm animals, someone told me it was cute when she'd make animal noises, and that friend was right. emery may never see any of these animals outside of her puzzles or books, but she sure is adorable when she imitates their sounds. the new animal sounds she knows are:
buh buh buh = buzz buzz (bumblebee)
tee tee tee = tweet (bird)
rrrraaaarrrrrr = roar (lion)
ooohh ooohh = hoo hoo (owl)

last week, i showed her how to make a fish face and she did it on her first try - just as well or better than i can do it, which isn't all that well.

i took her outside this week and she doesn't seem too fond of grass. in fact, when we took her pictures on a blanket in the back yard, she wouldn't crawl off the edge - it's almost like an invisible fence until she decides to brave the itchy grass. :)

when i ask her to pray before a meal, she rubs her hands together (same motion for "wash your hands") and when i ask her to sing a song, she hums the Hot Dog Song (from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse). a couple of times she's put her palm up to her mouth (to blow kisses). tonight she picked up her hair bow, put it on top of her head, and said: "bow."

she loves to dance, to be tossed in the air, and to be tickled. she seems to be very much an observer and although she's not afraid of new people, she rarely will perform any of her tricks in public and doesn't often do much other than study new faces.

she has six teeth - four on top and two on bottom. i can't see where the next ones will come just yet, but that certainly hasn't turned off the drool.

and yes, she is only wearing one shoe in most of these pictures.

here she's praying/washing her hands.

i told emery to say: "praise the Lord."

Daddy-Daughter Weekend - 04.19 to 04.21.13

Bubba and I spent this weekend together when Tiffanie was out of town. This was our first extended time together in a while without mama, and we made the most of our days. We ran the house, ran some errands, and got a taste of what Tiffanie does on a regular basis. We also had a lot of fun and bonded in our own way. Turns out:
  • Emery loves daddy's hair. Daddy's hair can produce hiccup-inducing laughter in a short amount of time.
  • Bunny knows how to handle her meat and potatoes. We made beef stew on Friday with a dollup of mashed potatoes in the middle. Three days later and we're still eating it. Tastes good!
  • Emery likes bows on her head more than I thought she would. She's thoroughly a girl and is completely content to be fashion accessorized.
  • The swings at the park are a hit! Even bigger is when daddy gets on the neighboring swing and dips his head backward. Bust-a-gut laughing ensues from a certain someone.
  • Emery likes to dance, though she rarely does so on camera. I peeked into the living room a few times this weekend and found her doing a jive when she thought I wasn't watching.
  • Venison chili is slightly preferred over chili mac or curry chili. Our church had a chili cookoff after service and Emery tried three different kinds. She is the only one who alternated between venison chili and applesauce. She decided to suck on a piece of curry chili meat for a LONG time without swallowing it or spitting it out. I eventually had to help her get it out.
  • Our daughter is well behaved. There were more than a couple train wrecks in the church nursery, but our girl kept her calm throughout the service. Not sure if she made any friends. She did manage to score a stash of goldfish crackers.

walking walking - 04.12.13

at cheer practice on wednesday, emery walked a ton in the gymnasium, and i realized she might just need more room to practice. so today, we practiced in the master bedroom.

and you know what makes walking more fun? walking while carrying an empty vitamin container! :)
