six months old - 8.27.12

emery is six months old today! she started eating solid food this month. so far she's had apples, avocados, bananas, peas, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, rice cereal, and pears. she liked sweet potatoes and green beans the best - maybe because they were straight off our dinner plates into the baby blender (read: the green beans had salt and pepper - oops! - and the sweet potatoes probably had butter!) she rolls very well and has maybe finally equated rolling to traveling across the floor as we often find her not in the place we put her down! she jabbers and spits and grunts a lot. she works very hard as tiffanie's assistant cheer coach - telling the girls exactly what to do! she's a sweetie and a joy to be with!

she had a lot of silly fun during our photo shoot today!

the pickle war - 8.22.12

blake and i agree on many things - except pickles. i like dill, he likes sweet gherkin. so, we agree to disagree.

but i'm bringing emery to my side!

emery's first taste - 8.11.12

on friday (8/10), we took emery to her 5.5 month check-up. she weighed 13lbs 0oz (~25th percentile) and was 25.25 inches long (50th-75th percentile). and the doctor said it was time to start offering solid foods.

so tonight, we mixed a little rice cereal with some formula and got the video camera and regular camera ready to capture her first taste! she figured out how to use the spoon pretty quickly, although the swallowing part still needs some work. she was happy to keep trying!

we have a baby-size blender and storage containers to make our own baby food. we're going to try some purees this week. we hope she likes her new tastes!

projects - 8.06.12

i finished a few projects right before cheer started today. i'm thankful to my mom for playing with emery while i sewed on saturday and to blake for doing the same on sunday.

the first is a onesie that i embroidered with the words: WS Cheer. it was a lot of work so it's good that i chose one that's still a little too big for her - maybe she can still wear it next year! (it's size 18 months, even though it doesn't look like it's that big compared to her other onesies.) her auntie cindy bought her the matching bow! she was the hit of tryouts!

i will note that emery drools SO much that she always wears a bib and it covered up all that hard work. coach Little suggested that i embroider a bib next time! good idea!

the second project is two sets of pads that velcro on our Ergo baby carrier so that the baby has something a little softer to lay her head on and something absorbent and easily washable to suck/drool on. they both have a set of ribbon loops to hook toys or a pacifier on. it's a little hard to see in the picture, but the ones on the carrier are light pink. both sets are backed with light pink terry cloth. they were SUPER easy to make. think quilted pot holders! :)
