four months old - 6.27.12

emery is four months old today! for two days, she's been rolling to her left and gramma said today she rolled to her right too (but we have yet to see it ourselves). once she gets to her tummy, she's stuck and hasn't figured out how to roll back. she drools like a fountain, but i don't see any teeth yet. she tries to say sounds with the letter "g" and it sounds mostly like gurgling. she loves to jabber and talk to her toys. she is very interested in books, she looks all over each page, and often reaches out to touch the pages. she's such a sweetie and by far the cutest baby i've ever seen!

rolling over - 6.25.12

until now, emery has been playing on a fairly narrow activity mat and when she would roll up on her right side, she'd run into the pole that holds the hanging toys. so last tuesday, i pulled out a bigger mat (we have three mats, i'd only opened one of them) so she'd have more room to try rolling. on wednesday, i pushed her to her side, where she'd been rolling on her own, and she rolled herself over! but for the next few days, she tried to do the whole roll herself and would only get about 3/4 of the way over and flop back. today, i was making my breakfast while she played on her mat (i can see her from the kitchen) and after a few minutes when i looked over at her, she was on her tummy - to her left! so i helped back on her back and watched her try again to the left and this time she got all the way over fairly easily! she rolled several more times during the day. i think we still need to work on rolling to the right. and we definitely need to work on how to get tummy to back - once she's on her tummy she doesn't know what to do! she can only hold her head and chest up for so long before she gets tired and face-plants. and lately she's been trying to pull her knees up under her and that just causes her to face-plant even more. wow, this girl is getting so big!

emery feeding herself - 6.15.12

emery always tries to "help" me feed her by trying to grab the bottle and usually ends up knocking it out of her mouth instead. at feeding times (and all the time), i could use an extra arm: one to hold the bottle, one to hold down her "helpful" hands, and one to make sure she doesn't dive out of my lap! she's a busy girl!

today i decided to let her try holding the bottle, and she did a surprisingly good job. of course she couldn't hold it up very well, but she seemed to understand the idea. i feel like this was such a big girl moment for her - she's learning and understanding how to do things herself! yay bunny!

giggles: the most beautiful sound in the world - 6.13.12

on saturday june 2, emery laughed for the first time while i was tickling her - it was the most beautiful sound in the world! i can't say i didn't cry just a little at that wonderful sound. since then, she's laughed a few more times, but it involves a fair amount of riling her up which closely borders on the moment when she's completely over-stimulated and wants me to quit bugging her. today i finally got her giggles on video. i look forward to hearing that sound again and again!

first ride in the big girl stroller - 6.09.12

today, we took emery on a walk and she rode in the jogging stroller like a big girl for the first time. typically, she rides in the carseat that snaps into this stroller or the snap-n-go stroller frame. today she was facing forward and sitting up like a big girl! she had so much fun that she dozed off!

emery yelling - 6.04.12

most of the time, instead of crying when she wants our attention, emery yells. yesterday, she yelled to her toys while i sat by her. it's hard to see from the zoomed in camera angle, but she's laying on her activity mat with lots of toys hanging from it. it's funny to see her watching to see if i'm watching her. what a silly baby.

bumbo race - 6.02.12

today, emery went for a race in her bumbo seat. she's getting much better at holding herself up in the bumbo. it looks like she wasn't quite sure what to think of her adventure today, but we think she had fun!
